Includes portraits, group portraits and snapshots taken at various points throughout the life of Channing Liem. Includes a photograph album depicting selected highlights of his diplomatic career; studio portraits of Channing; photographs of participants in demonstrations pertaining to Korean reunification and deomcracy efforts; as well as other groups of snapshots documenting miscellaneous demonstrations, meetings and other activities. Popai Liem is depicted in some photographs.

Channing Liem was born in Whangai Province, North Korea, on Oct. 30, 1909. He came to the United States in 1930 where he attended Lafayette College (1930-1934), Princeton (1940-1945), and Yale (1954-1955). He served as Consultant on Far Eastern Affairs to the U.S. Office of Censorship (1942-1945) and assisted in the Korean independence movement. He also served as Permanent Observer for Korea to the United Nations, 1960-1961, and was a professor of political science and Asian studies at Chatham C...
